According to Bronfenbrenner the child is embedded in a series of complex and interactive systems. Name and describe these five interacting systems
What will be an ideal response?
A good answer will include the following key points:
- Microsystem: Consists of the people and objects in an individual's immediate environment. These are the people closest to the child.
- Mesosytem: Consists of the connection between the microsystems themselves. It represents the fact that what happens in one microsystem is likely to influence others.
- Exosystem: Consists of the social settings that a person may not experience firsthand but that still influence development. Although the influence is at least secondhand, its effects on the developing child can be quite strong.
- Macrosystem: Consists of the broadest environmental context — the subcultures and cultures in which the microsystem, mesosystem, and exosystem are embedded.
- Chronosystem: All systems change over time. The microsystem, mesosystem, exosystem, and macrosystem are not static but often in flux.
