Answer: The General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) consisted of different "negotiations" in attempts to allow free flow of goods/services with lower barriers. The Uruguay Round was the was the most recent negotiation to take place, in 1993, while the first one occurred in 1948. This most recent round accomplished a wide range of tasks, including: establishing the World Trade Organization; more protection on intellectual property (copyrights, patents, and trademarks); extended protection on manufactured goods, and even more reduced trade barriers.
