Which ligaments are responsible for medial-lateral stability of the knee joint? To which compartment do they belong?

What will be an ideal response?

ANS:
Medial and lateral stability of the knee joint are considered to be primarily maintained by the collateral ligaments. The medial collateral ligament controls valgus movements, whereas the lateral collateral controls varus movements. There is significant evidence that the posterior cruciate also controls both varus and valgus movement of the knee in the fully extended knee.
Fairly substantial secondary medial-lateral ligamentous support may be given by the anterior and posterior cruciate (varying in magnitude with the position of the knee), and more minor support by the meniscotibial, arcuate, and oblique popliteal ligaments.
