Who was the most influential researcher on styles of parenting? When did this researcher conduct research and how? Explain the limitations of this person's research
What will be an ideal response?
Diana Baumrind is considered to be the single most influential researcher on
parenting styles. She conducted her studies in the 1960s and 1970s by observing
100 American, middle-class preschool children of Western European descent. The
obvious limitation of her research is the lack of cultural diversity, although this was
not recognized at the time. Her research is considered to be too simplistic and
focused only on parental attitudes and not on day-to-day interactions.
