Why is it important to distinguish between the material presented in the Results section of a journal article and that in the Discussion section? That is, what different information does each provide?

What will be an ideal response?

The results section gives a complete description of results, but does not provide speculation or discussion. The presentation of results should be an objective description that is relatively free of theoretical bias. The discussion section uses the data to develop interpretations and speculations; it can involve theory and particular points of view that the author wants to advance. The difference between the results and the discussion is that the results are usually fairly clear and are not controversial; the discussion, on the other hand, requires interpretation that goes provides meaning about what the data tell us.
