Does economic prosperity lead to democracy or does democracy lead to economic prosperity?
What will be an ideal response?
While there seems to be a direct correlation between democracy and development it is not entirely clear which direction the causal flow moves. It may be that the political and economic institutions necessary for strong economic growth emerge out of democratic regimes more often than any other type of regime. However, democracies are expensive to establish and maintain and require some degree of economic development to already be in place.
