Provide a high-level overview of the tasks involved in securing the environment.
What will be an ideal response?
Securing the surrounding environment is the first step in physical security. The goals are to protect key personnel and restrict access to areas in which equipment is located. In years past, the task of securing the environment was carried out almost exclusively by security guards who would walk a set route watching for any suspicious activity. Although security personnel are still used today, they are no longer the only or even primary defense. Security technology tools can provide an enhanced degree of security. Securing the environment includes securing the perimeter with security lighting and fencing, using video surveillance devices and fire suppression equipment, installing backup power generators, and regulating the environment through heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC).
