Discuss the differences between men?s and women?s friendships in terms of self-disclosure
and levels of intimacy. Give examples as support.
What will be an ideal response?
Men?s friendships generally form through shared experiences. Women?s friendships
form more through interpersonal communication, especially self-disclosure. However,
women?s friendships are not more intimate than men?s friendships just because they
form based on communication. For example, men that have fought together in a war
have some of the deepest friendships. Measuring the of relationships by the depth of
interpersonal communication that has been shared is to measure relational intimacy
with a feminine yardstick.
