Why should the public figure privilege be extended to defamatory statements published over the Internet?

What will be an ideal response?

The public figure privilege exists because the public figure who has been defamed has access to the media and, therefore, has the ability to defend himself or herself. Likewise, when a person is defamed over the Internet, the defamed party can respond with a few keystrokes. Thus, there is less need for the stronger legal protection we ordinarily give to the private party. A second reason is that we want to encourage free expression and the exchange of ideas on the Internet. Requiring a plaintiff to prove malice would encourage such free discussion because people would not have to worry about making errors when they speak about others.
