What are some of the challenges faced by artists from postcolonial nations?
What will be an ideal response?
Postcolonial artists often experience a tension between the imposed culture of the colonizer and their native traditions. For example, a postcolonial playwright may want to explore the indigenous performance traditions suppressed during the colonial period; however, he/she may have been trained to emulate European models. Often the work of these artists will reflect this hybrid form, with playwrights using the two different traditions side by side.
