As a manager, could you use the self-fulfilling prophecy to improve your subordinate's performance? Why or why not?
What will be an ideal response?
The self-fulfilling prophecy can and should be applied in the workplace because of the positive effects that can result. The manager needs to clearly and consistently communicate their high expectations and display behaviors that support their subordinate's performance. The subordinate will experience higher self-esteem and self-efficacy and their expectations of what they can do increase, which motivates them to put forth the behavior required to improve. The perception influencing behavior cycle continues and results in objective improvements in performance.
