Is a captive audience or voluntary audience more difficult to address? Explain your answer
and provide an example for support.
What will be an ideal response?
There is not necessarily a right or wrong choice as long as the student demonstrates a
clear understanding of the two different types of audiences and provide a clear argument and
example for support. A captive audience may be more difficult because the listeners do not have
a choice in being there or are not interested in topic. On the other hand, a voluntary audience
may have higher expectations for the speaker.
