Briefly describe a conflict you have recently experienced, perhaps with a family member, friend, classmate, or co-worker. How was the conflict communicated verbally and/or nonverbally? What caused or escalated the conflict?
What was the outcome (e.g. win-win,
compromise, etc.)? How could you have communicated differently to achieve a more desirable
outcome?
What will be an ideal response?
The student should be able to differentiate between spoken or written messages (verbal)
and other types of behavior (nonverbal). Conflict escalators include unfulfilled needs, faulty
attributions or perceptions, punctuation (assigning cause or fault to others' behaviors), and
unethical behavior. Possible outcomes are win-win, compromise, win-lose, and lose-lose.
